Iron Fist vs Shang-Chi

Article by Gregg Katzman. Unless you strongly disagree with this list, then it definitely isn’t by Gregg.

To celebrate Marvel and Netflix’s new Iron Fist show and the new Iron Fist comic series (by Ed Brisson and Mike Perkins), we’re going to list some of the other top hand-to-hand combatants in the Marvel Universe! Obviously, the Marvel Universe is a biiiiiiig place and it’s full of talented fighters, so some of your favorites may not appear below. Seriously, we’d have dozens and dozens of names on an “honorable mentions” list – Moon Knight, Deadpool, Taskmaster, so on and so on! If you feel like there’s a Marvel character who deserves some extra respect, give them some love in the comments – feel free to make reading recommendations to your fellow fans, too!

The following list is in no particular order.

Gamora

Gamora

She’s called the deadliest woman in the universe for a reason, folks.

Shang-Chi

Shang

Who needs powers when you’re a focused and absurdly skilled martial artist? Any list about Marvel fighters just isn’t complete without Shang-Chi. Well, unless the list is “worst Marvel fighters”. He definitely wouldn’t be on that one.

Mr. X

Mister X

Thanks to his telepathic ability and his own skill, Mr. X has humiliated Taskmaster and even Wolverine. However, he’s been humiliated by Iron Fist. Take that, Mr. X!

Wolverine

Wolverine

When he wants to focus on technique instead of “flail like a mad man until I hit something”, James “Logan” Howlett can be a shockingly formidable martial artist thanks to his decades of training and martial arts knowledge.

Captain America

CaptainAmerica

The super-soldier has a super grasp on a variety of hand-to-hand techniques. This combined with his impressive physicality and tactical mind makes Steve Rogers a phenomenal fighter. He even proved he can drop Crossbones without the super soldier serum.

Black Panther

BlackPanther

T’Challa is without question one of the top combatants in the Marvel Universe. With terrific fighting abilities, a sharp mind and even sharper claws, Black Panther is easily one of the best fighters in the Marvel Universe.

Fat Cobra

Fat Cobra

He made Iron Fist yield. ‘Nuff said!

Elektra

Elektra

There’s a good reason why many people in the Marvel Universe consider her to be one of the deadliest assassins around. To underestimate Elektra for even a second would be a huge mistake. Oh, and be sure to read her 11-issue series by Haden Blackman and Mike Del Mundo – it’s awesome!

The Cat

TheCat

You know Shang-Chi, right? The dude at the top of this list? The Cat has held his own against him and even embarrassed Deadpool.

Karnak

Karnak

Why land a combo when you know how to drop your opponent with a single strike? This Inhuman can see his opponent’s weakness and knows how to take advantage of it.

Mantis

Mantis

She’s dropped the God of Thunder with a nerve strike. So yeah, there’s no way I’m leaving her off this list.

Moondragon

Moondragon

She’s defeated Captain America (to be fair, he wasn’t at 100%) and even Mantis!

Gorgon

Gorgon

Wolverine and Elektra is a pretty scary team-up. I’m guessing not many martial artists would be happy to take ’em on at the same time. Gorgon, however, had no trouble dealing with them in Enemy of the State.

Stick

Stick

How could I not put the man who trained Daredevil and Elektra on this list?! Speaking of the Man Without Fear…

Daredevil

Daredevil

Daredevil’s combination of his skill, reflexes, and agility makes him an incredibly gifted hand-to-hand combatant. He’s a big fan of nerve strikes, too.

Temujin

Temujin

The son of the Mandarin can focus his chi to unleash some devastating attacks. Who needs weapons and technology to beat up Iron Man when your hands suffice?

Master Izo

Master Izo

Think of Daredevil. Now think of Daredevil wielding two blades instead of batons. Yeah, I wouldn’t want to mess with that guy, either.

Champion of the Universe

Champion

The name says it all, people.

Iron Fist

Iron Fist

Eh, he’s okay, I guess. But seriously, if you want to see just how dangerous Iron Fist can truly be, check out Thunderbolts #137 – it’s a brutal display of Danny Rand’s skill. There are countless other comics that also display Iron Fist’s talent, of course.
