DANNY FINGEROTH, co-editor of The Stan Lee Universe, has known and worked with Lee for many years. He spent a week at Stan’s archives at the University of Wyoming, where he found many of the rarities contained in the book. Danny is Senior Vice President of Education at SoHo’s Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (MoCCA), where he co-curated exhibitions of the work of Al Jaffee and Will Eisner. He was Group Editor of Marvel’s Spider-Man line and has written many comics featuring characters including, Spider-Man, Superman, Iron Man, and Darkhawk. He became one of Stan Lee’s earliest writers and editors in the Marvel of the mid-’60s, and worked closely with Stan and Stan Lee Universe co-editor Roy Thomas for a short but intense period. Moving to DC, Denny brought social consciousness to the medium with the groundbreaking Green Lantern/Green Arrow series. The Stan Lee Universe: Face front, true believers! The Stan Lee Universe is the ultimate repository of interviews with and mementos about Marvel Comics’ fearless leader! From his Soapbox to the box office, the Smilin’ One literally changed the face of comic books and pop culture, and this tome presents in his own words – and those of the illustrious folks he’s worked with – the co-creation of Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Silver Surfer, and so many other super-characters! Presented are numerous rare and unpublished interviews with Stan, discussing how he made Marvel Comics the household name it is today. Also featured are interviews with top luminaries of the comics industry, including John Romita Sr. & Jr., Tod McFarlane, Dennis O’Neil, Roy Thomas, Gene Colan, Al Jaffee, Larry Lieber, Jerry Robinson, and Michael Uslan discussing his vital importance to the field he helped shape. Plus, this book contains the essential-to-every-writer Stan Lee’s Top Ten Tips for Writers! And as a bonus for this special edition, and direct from Stan’s personal archives (housed at the University of Wyoming), you’ll see rare photos, sample scripts and plots, personal correspondences, and other tidbits from the entire span of his career, some unseen for decades!

New York, NY, September 7, 2011- Midtown Comics in New York City is proud to present Craig Thompson signing his new book HABIBI at Midtown Comics Downtown on Tuesday, September 20th from 12:00PM to 2:00PM.

HABIBI will be available at all three Midtown Comics stores on September 20th. Purchase is required to attend signing.

Craig Thompson is best known for his 2003 graphic novel Blankets, for which he won several awards for including three Harvey Awards, two Eisner Awards, and two Ignatz Awards. His work also includes his 1999 graphic novel Good-bye, Chunky Rice and his 2004 graphic novel/travelogue Carnet de Voyage.

HABIBI is a deeply romantic story that explores and celebrates the beauty and cruelty, the complexity and depths of the Islamic world. Craig’s stunning artwork is matched by the haunting stories of his characters’ lives. Set in a mythical Middle East, at once contemporary and timeless, HABIBI is a parable about our relationship to the natural world, about the cultural divide between the First World and the Third World, and about the common heritage of Christianity and Islam. The magic of storytelling allows us to see the fragility embedded in cruelty, to understand how beauty can preserve us from destruction and how love can save us from loss of hope.
