Welcome back to the week after New York Comic Con!
THANK YOU TO NYCC!
We offer a big, fat, healthy, hearty, THANK YOU to our friends at ReedPop, for presenting this great convention. Larry, Lance, Greg, Kristin, Brian, and everyone else at Reed: Midtown takes its collective hat off to you! Many thanks also to our friends and partners who teamed up with us to present some amazing exclusive items. Marvel Comics, Madame Tussauds of New York, Titan Magazines, New Era Caps, Mad Engine, and Freeze: we salute you!
Midtown Comics at NYCC–videos and pics:
Walking the show floor was a blast–seeing the excitement at all the booths, in Artist Alley, and at so many events. Speaking for myself, I loved seeing the 1960s Batmobile in person–what a cool ride! Modest as we always are, we’d hafta say that Midtown rocked the house with creator signings and super cool exclusive swag! We took tons of pics of revelers (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday) decked out in their best costumes (and sometimes got in the picture with ‘em), gave away tons of stuff, and had a splendid time! Check out our videos and you’ll understand why we say NYCC is the best: Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples signed for 200 happy fans, and we got a great interview with Matt Wagner and Scott Snyder! We got fabulous footage of our creator signings and lots of creative, colorful cosplayers all over the con and at our booth! The life-size Thor wax figure was provided by our friends at Madame Tussauds New York. Of course, we weren’t the only ones shooting video: Our friends at Machinima talked to Jon about our exclusive NYCC swag and International Businesss Times talked to Thor about what Marvel, DC, Dark Horse and Midtown Comics had going on at the con!
Batman and Alfred E. Newman–together…
…in this blurb only! What is the Dark Knight most afraid of? Find out when Batman is pushed to his limits as he faces a fear toxin unlike any he has ever encountered, in Batman the Dark Knight #13, by Greg Hurwitz and David Finch. That’s one of a trio of great Bat titles coming your way next week, including Talon #1 by Scott Snyder and Guillem March! Look for National Comics Madame X #1, which re-imagines the classic character in a cool new way by Rob Williams, Trevor Hairsine, and Fiona Staples, and Fables #122 by Bill Willingham, Gene Ha, Shawn McManus, and Joao Ruas. Just for the foolishness of it all, let’s not forget about Mad Magazine #518, serving up the same mind-rotting stuff while you rot your teeth with Halloween candy! Lots more from DC next week!
Legion Secret Origin trade paperback:
Written by Midtown Pal Paul Levitz, with art by Chris Batista and Marc Derring, Legion Secret Origin TP collects the 2011 six-issue miniseries. Learn why the United Planets was formed, who tried to kill R.J. Brande the first time, what great power could leave entire planets desolate and lifeless, and much more!
Big changes and final issues pave the way for Marvel Now!
It’s truly the end of an era as final issues arrive to make way for Marvel Now! Next week, say a loving goodbye to old favorites, starting with FF #23 by Jonathan Hickman, Nick Dragotta, and Kalman Andrasofszky, Incredible Hulk #15 by Jason Aaron, Jefte Palo, and Ed McGuinness, Invincible Iron Man #527 by Matt Fraction and Salvador Larroca, and Captain America #19 by Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting. Even Spidey is hurtling toward a final issue, and evidently some major changes, with Amazing Spider-Man #696 by Dan Slott, Christos N. Gage, Giuseppe Camuncoli, and Steve McNiven. There’s much more from Marvel next week, including more consequences of you-know-what!
Marvel continues its month-long campaign in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Marvel Universe’s most popular super-heroes are featured on all-new variant covers with special pink-colored costumes!

Halloween is on the way:
There’s lots of horror books coming next week — Halloween must be on the way! Dynamite Entertainment presents Chosen #1, an original comic book series created by filmmaker Marcus Nispel (Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre). Chosen is a high-octane action thriller about a Detroit kid who is manifesting the powers of an ancient Eastern spiritual master, taking him on a journey from the urban grit of Detroit’s 8 Mile and take him all the way to the even grittier underground gangland of Mumbai. From IDW comes a tale of dark comedy and horror, in Alan Robert Killogy #1 (of 4) by guess who? Alan Robert (creator of IDW’s hit series Crawl to Me). Dark Horse presents Ghost #1, by Kelly Sue Deconnick and Phil Noto, with a properly atmospheric cover by Alex Ross. There’s a lot more happening next week, and it’s not just horror!
