BLOGGERINOS! Raph’s back this week! This time to continue a thread from last week, and give some thoughts on the season premiere of Game of Thrones!
Game of Thrones came back last night, and it came back with a BANG! Continuing where last season left off, war is coming to Westeros. The actions of Joffrey Baratheon have plunged the nation into war. Robb Stark is winning battles against the boy king who killed his father, and he holds Jaime Lannister hostage. Tyrion Lannister is now Hand of the King, and must keep his nephew in check. The Baratheon brothers, Stannis and Renly, war with each other over the rightful claim of the throne. Jon Snow goes with the Night’s Watch to investigate the goings on North of the Wall; and across the Narrow Sea, Daenerys Targarean, last of the Dragon Blood, seeks only to save her people and foster her dragons until the time comes for her to sail across and take back her lands. The pieces are moving, and the game is afoot! Without revealing much more about the episode itself, this is probably the best ensemble cast I’ve seen since Lost (Forgive me if I’m snubbing a show, but I can’t think of many ensemble shows that I’ve watched as good as this). Peter Dinklage really earned that Emmy, and the rest of the cast really understands their respective characters, and gives them a life. I care about almost every character (except Joffrey, Cersei and Tywin), and that’s a credit to the performances. The War of the Five Kings should be one of the most epic wars seen on the small screen. Be sure to check out this season, and if you’re behind, pick up last season on DVD or Blu-Ray!
That’s all for this week, I’m off to PAX EAST next weekend, expect a report next time! Until Then –
