Bloggerinos! It’s that time, the time to discuss comics! Before Watchmen is probably one of the most talked about, and controversial, comic projects in quite some time. Let’s take a look at what’s exactly going on!
Before Watchmen is a project that’s been rumored by DC for a number of years now, and that all got fast tracked once the movie was released. Knowing that fans of the movie (and the book) would want to see more of this realistic world with fallible heroes and imperfect solutions, DC started gathering creators to create Dream Teams to produce these books. The line-up includes:
Darwyn Cooke on Minutemen, where we take a look at the team the will ultimately change the face of the Earth.
Cooke and Amanda Connor on Silk Spectre, a look at the legacy of Sally Juspeczyk and her daughter, Laurie.
Len Wein and John Higgins on Crimson Corsair, which is a comic produced in the Watchmen Universe by DC Comics!
Wein and Jae Lee on Ozymandias, following the ascension of the wunderkind and madman, Adrian Veidt.
J. Michael Stracyznki and Adam Hughes on Dr. Manhattan, where we watch Jon Osterman lose his humanity and become an all-seeing, unfeeling god-man.
JMS and the Kubert Brothers (Adam and Andy) on Nite Owl, where we follow Dan Dreiberg and his quest to live up to Hollis Mason, the original Nite Owl.
Brian Azzarello and JG Jones on the Comedian, as we follow his career, and his depravity, as an agent of the US government.
Azzarello and Lee Bermejo on Rorschach, everyone’s favorite sociopath.
This is a lot of award winning talent working with material from arguably the best superhero story of all time. DC is pulling out all the stops… the controversy is of course with the writer and co-creator of Watchmen, Alan Moore, with Moore going as far as to say that the project is “completely shameless” in a New York Times article.
