RIP Joe Kubert (1926 – 2012)

We here at Midtown Comics are sad to hear that comic book legend Joe Kubert passed away at the age of 85. Joe is one of the many great pillars of comics, along with Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, Joe Siegel, Jerry Shuster, Will Eisner and many, many others who helped make comics great. His distinctive style and large body of work are a legacy few people can match.

This week DC’s THE SOURCE blog shows off Andy Kubert’s design of Aquaman for the upcoming DC event FLASHPOINT. Take a close look at the logo on Aquaman’s arm. Could it be that the big secret to FLASHPOINT is that Aquaman  meets Captain Picard and joins Starfleet? Somebody had to take care of those whales from Star Trek IV. No?

This week DC’s THE SOURCE blog revealed two new character designs for the upcoming event FLASHPOINT by Jim Lee and Andy Kubert. How will these characters play into the upcoming events of FLASHPOINT? We’ll just have to wait and see. Until then we can just look at the pretty pictures!
