Batman v Superman

Review by Gregg Katzman

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The plot is pretty much in the title, isn’t it? We all know the Dark Knight (Ben Affleck) and the Man of Steel (Henry Cavill) will be at odds, but at least two Justice League movies have been announced, so we’re also pretty sure they’ll end up on the same side – it’s all in one of the trailers, after all. Anyone who has read a comic has seen the “heroes battle until they join forces” scenario countless times before. Does knowing that really matter, though? To some, it will. But to me, that isn’t what’s important. I don’t really care about “who will win?” I’m not on “team Batman” or “team Superman”. I’m here to see Warner Bros. and DC Comics give fans what they’ve craved for so long: a cinematic universe that’s full of familiar faces, both good and bad.  Seeing how everything actually plays out and how these characters are handled is far more important than strongly suspecting that they’ll end up as friends, or at least allies. Is their conflict forced or does it feel justified? Does the eventual team-up feel like a natural development, or is it there just to blatantly get us ready for Justice League movies? I’d say those are a few of the things that really matter. Besides, we’re all on team Wonder Woman, right?

Batman v Superman

The wait to see director Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman is almost over, and now Warner Bros. and DC are asking us fans one big question: Who will win? Will Batman’s brilliant mind and technology make Superman learn what it means to be a man? Or will Superman’s sheer might stop the Dark Knight from humbling him? Or maybe Wonder Woman will knock some sense into both of them?! We won’t find out until the blockbuster DC movie opens on March 25th, but for now, we want to have some fun picking a side! This time, we’re going to support Big Blue! Kal-El/Clark Kent, a.k.a. Superman, totally has what it takes to take the Dark Knight down a peg, and we have four quick and simple reasons why. Don’t worry, we’ll eventually share a counter-point article that roots for Batman, too!

Batman v Superman Captain America Civil War

By Gregg Katzman

Welcome to the very first edition of the Midtown Comics Clash! For our first question, we wanted to know which big 2016 comic book movie fans are more excited to see: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice or Captain America: Civil War?  While the two movies do have some obvious parallels (e.g. heroes fighting over ideologies; introduction of new heroes), these two movies look like they’ll also be very, very different. The Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe are at totally different stages, and both are setting out to accomplish completely different things with these blockbuster movies. Obviously, Marvel Studios and Warner Bros./DC are going for very different tones with these two films and there’s sure to be plenty of other differences, but if you had to pick one of them, which one would it be? Before revealing the poll’s current status, we thought it would be fun to ask this question to the staff in our Times Square store. Spoiler alert: one movie receives way more love.
