I remember the first time that I saw a HOT TOYS figure and I thought that surely this was just one made for charity or some important cause. There was no way that this work of art could be available for regular collectors like me to actually purchase, right? But it was true. I had seen the future of toys back in 2004 at San Diego Comic Con and this was going to change the playing field for what was quickly becoming known as the “high end collectible figure.” As I stood there admiring this piece, it was as if I had just been dropped off by Doc Brown & Marty McFly in a time traveling DeLorean. I was witnessing the future of toys and the future looked incredibly bright.

Batman v Superman Captain America Civil War

Welcome to the very first edition of the Midtown Comics Clash! For our first question, we wanted to know which big 2016 comic book movie fans are more excited to see: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice or Captain America: Civil War?  While the two movies do have some obvious parallels (e.g. heroes fighting over ideologies; introduction of new heroes), these two movies look like they’ll also be very, very different. The Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe are at totally different stages, and both are setting out to accomplish completely different things with these blockbuster movies. Obviously, Marvel Studios and Warner Bros./DC are going for very different tones with these two films and there’s sure to be plenty of other differences, but if you had to pick one of them, which one would it be? Before revealing the poll’s current status, we thought it would be fun to ask this question to the staff in our Times Square store. Spoiler alert: one movie receives way more love.

Batmobile

Quite a treat located right at the museum’s entrance!

If you’re reading this article, then the odds are pretty good you’re at least somewhat interested in comic books! If so, we’re happy to say that walking through the New York Historical Society’s Superheroes in Gotham exhibit is something we absolutely recommend! It really doesn’t matter if you’re brand new to the medium, a casual fan of superheroes, or a longtime mega fan, because the exhibit has something for everyone to appreciate. From a detailed spotlight of popular characters’ earliest moments, to an insightful look at how the characters took over popular culture, the exhibit is not only educational, but also a ton of fun! Oh, and we can’t help but love the fact they have one of the Batmobiles from the classic 1966 Batman show right at the museum’s entrance!

Mets Superheroes comics

As the New York Mets fight to enter the World Series, they’re no longer being viewed by some fans as just another sports team – they’re being viewed as a superhero sports team! With two of the team’s fan-favorite pitchers taking superhero names – Dark Knight and Thor – some fans are having fun thinking about which Marvel and DC heroes the other athletes can represent. Well, Monkeys Fighting Robots took time to match the rest of the team with appropriate heroes, so we want to share some extra commentary on the site’s picks!
