Our friends at Comics Alliance have reported that Gerry Armbruster, who was arrested last month for robbing mentally disabled comic book fan Mike Meyer of thousands of dollars worth of Superman comics and collectibles, has been convicted of the crime and sentenced to six years in prison. Back in September we posted a call to action encouraging Midtown’s friends to help one of their own and send in any Superman comics or merchandise they could spare. We even sent Mike over $150.00 worth of our best Superman stuff!

UPDATE: It has been reported that the man who stole Mike Meyer’s Superman collection has been brought to justice and his collection has been returned! We will no longer be accepting donations. You can read more about the arrest at Comics Alliance. We’re happy to see that Mike was able to get his collection back.

Our hearts go out to Mike Meyer, whose entire Superman collection was stolen by a former co-worker.  As Greg Hatcher mentions on CBR, Mike has been on a special-needs disability pension for the last twenty years, and supplements that meager income by working part-time at a fast-food place. The one thing that he really cherished was his Superman collection.
