Toy Fair 2013 Report

Posted by Raphael in Blog|Conventions

Midtown Bloggerinos! Raph here, having just left Toy Fair. What’s Toy Fair you ask? It’s a show where the toymakers of the world meet and show off their wares to the retailers of the world. It’s not just action figures though: statues, play sets, kids’ toys, accessories and dolls, board games and so much more!

This is a shot of the DC Justice League New 52 ArtFX line, in it’s complete glory. Note the Justice League poster in the background. The line consists of the “Big 7″: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Cyborg and Flash. Each statue has a magnetic base, and Superman and Green Lantern are currently available.

Diamond also had a great presence there, and they had a bunch of new figures on display. Shown in this picture are the Diamond Marvel Select Iron Man Mark 42 and War Machine figures for the new Iron Man 3 movie. If you saw my last post, you know how excited I am for the movie, and seeing these figures there only makes me more giddy!

Here we have four more figures from the New 52 line from DC Collectibles. The Green Lantern Simon Baz figure has been solicited for May 2013, while the others have yet to be announced. The figures are beautifully sculpted, and you can feel the quality of the plastic. The articulation is not the most extensive, but given the thickness and heft of the plastic, it’s understandable. I think this is a quality line that DC has put out. Check out the rest of the Justice League figures here.

2013 looks to be the year of Superman! DC Collectibles is putting out this gorgeous statue with a wireframe cape… the picture doesn’t do it justice! There are statues for all the Kryptonians in the movie, and they’re available for pre-order. There is also a new Superman statue line, similar to the Batman Black and White line, it’s going to feature different artists’ renditions of the Man of Steel! I saw Frank Miller’s Superman, Rags Morales’ Superman and Lee Bermjeo’s, amongst others. All of the Superman statues have a metallic paint job, and they look brilliant!

Another set of figures I’m looking forward is DC’s own 3 3/4 line, based on Injustice: Gods Among Us. Injustice is a soon to be released video game by NetherRealm studios, creators of Mortal Kombat. The game is probably going to be cool, but what I REALLY care about is these bad boys. Pictured is Green Arrow Vs. Deathstroke, but there’s also Wonder Woman vs. Grundy, and Flash. I actually got to pick up the Flash, and the articulation was pretty decent on them. I enjoyed the fact that they  are also very sturdy, as there have been complaints of brittleness in the exclusive GL figures that DCC did. These guys are much better in terms of construction, and the articulation is top notch; for a guy like me, that’s a deal maker!

For the Whovians out there, Underground Toys had a ginamyic (that’s giant and dynamic) booth at the con, with tons of plushes (pictured), lego sized toys, sonic screwdrivers, T.A.R.D.I.S.es and more! Most of this stuff has already been released and is available, but I love me my Doctor Who gear.

And of course we can’t leave out all the Bronies out there! Mimobot, those makers of USB drives plastered with your favorite characters, has jumped into the My Little Pony arena. These drives are 20% cooler than the typical USB drive*

*not mathematically provable.

On top of the USB drives, Ty is also releasing Beanie Ponies. These guys look adorable, and I’m sure Bronies will flock to them, or is that a bird thing?

That’s it for this week. Let me leave you with one tidbit: the Man of Steel Mattel figures look pretty sweet, particularly the adult collectible 6 inch figure, which SHOULD be in stores March 1st. Sorry there isn’t a picture, but Mattel is very strict about that.

Until Next Time,
