The 2013 San Diego Comic Con was full of huge announcements, but one of the biggest was Warner Bros. plans to expand on the DC Cinematic Universe. Let’s take a look at what they said, and what it possibly means for the future.

BATMAN. SUPERMAN. The World’s Finest team.

It looks like DC not only wants to do a Man of Steel sequel, but also build on the greater universe. Maybe Batman will make a huge departure, and step out into the light? Maybe Bruce will try and figure out what kind of threat Clark is to the human race? Maybe LuthorCorp and Wayne Enterprises help rebuild Metropolis for this purpose? Lex Luthor and Bruce Wayne: allies?

I say yes.

The world will mistrust Superman, for all the damage that was done, and the fact that people expect another Kryptonian invasion. Lex Luthor will harp on this, and use this fear and paranoia to sow further mistrust. Bruce will go along with it too, only to discover what Lex Luthor is up to. Secret government experiments, all leading to individuals with abilities to stop the Man of Steel. Of course, this means that Bruce and Clark will team up to face whatever Luthor has in store, and maybe earn a mutual respect?

Here’s hoping. Superman/Batman hits theaters Summer 2015.

Rumors abounded that a Flash movie would get announced, but alas, we got no such announcement. With so many people speculating on it, this has to be a “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” thing. I would venture to say that WB put the buzz out there, and is possibly waiting for the hype to swell before finally announcing it, maybe even saving it for next year’s Comic-Con, in anticipation of a 2016 release. I would think this movie might be another good chance to bring together the JLA by (re)introducing Hal Jordan as a friend of Barry’s. Speaking of the JLA…

The big kahuna. The one everyone has been anticipating since 2006. Justice League will probably take off in 2017. If I had to guess, we’d get a roster of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash… with maybe Aquaman or Martian Manhunter. Six members is a good balance. Wonder Woman and Aquaman could have a previous relatonship, maybe diplomatic meetings between Thermyscira and Atlantis? The possibilities are rich, and David S. Goyer has a lot of experience with the DC Universe. Here’s to a bright future for DC’s movie universe!
